I don't have a party plan, I'm staying home with husband to enjoy the moments. This year I want to enjoy and thank God for each moment in life that He gives me.

Genesis. Oh my gosh, the lies we are so quick to believe and to tell.

The Lord God and Adam, "Where are you? I know you are here." "No I'm not."... "

The Lord and Sara, "You laughed." "No I didn't."

In junior high I had a few teachers that said, "Unless you get serious you won't get anywhere in life." "Yes I will." "No you won't."

So, here I am in the middle of my art career that is basically about random things that I find funny, lots of other people do to because they buy enough of it. If my business wasn't already named Pam Warden Art (originality stops here!) it would be called, "...and Sara Laughed". An even better name if my name was Sara.

Anyway, back to my art/work story. I'd like to ask you to pray for us. We're starting a new greeting card line. My work is sold around the country and a few places in Canada (DO NOT BE PROUD PAM!!!), and many of the business's that I sell to have asked for cards It's super expensive to start our own line and to brand me, (not like a cow, but with a recognizable image that people can only relate to me when they see it.)

This is my branding image. It you ever see this anywhere you can say to yourself, "Self, I know her, that's Pam's Blue Hair Clip Lady." And you will be right. I call her, "The Blue Hair Clip Lady".

I have greeting cards with Legacy (a wonderful company) but due to a horrible contract that I signed with my old licensing agents, I'm not getting paid for any of the my work that they sell.
I own all of my images so I'm creating my own company with my own work and I'm my own boss.

I don't ask God for huge success, but just enough, as the scripture says, "Give me neither poverty or riches; feed me with the food that is my portion, that I not be full and deny You, and say, "Who is the Lord?" Or that I not be in want and steal..." I'd like to think that I wouldn't steal...or have amnesia. I probably should not have said/written that last part out-loud <3. Too late :(

So, here I am, a defender of the faith who has this worry in the back of her mind, that someday if the police were to close in on me for "stealing", and say into a bullhorn, "We know you're hiding here!!!!" I'm afraid that just because I'd think it was funny I'd say, "No I'm not."

My teachers were right in the end :) (...) <3

Fighting Over Shoes...is my brand new, hot off the paintbrush, piece of artwork. Now I am working on a new gardening piece. I finally got every single piece sent to Legacy for the 2010 catalog so now I can think up my own fun stuff to paint again :) This is watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink and pencil. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a former gift shop owner and so many of these names are companies that I ordered from and carried in my store, but I'm just so stinkin' happy to see myself/my business right up in there with theirs. Sorry that this blog is so neglected, but it's a problem of pain that I'm having with my hands, plus what's called Dupuytren's Contracture. (I decided to spare you the photos:) I've been seeing one specialist after the other...The tissue, not joints, are swollen and the swelling does not go down. I've tried almost everything, including leaving the computer alone. So, appreciate your prayers and as Arnold would say, "I'll be back."

A couple of Grandchildren and John...and a sweet gift from my printing company...I'm feeling a bit like Snow White :)

A Fed Ex package arrived and inside was this beautiful basket of wonderfully crisp Wisconsin apples, with some cute gummy worms added for effect. This is from our new printing company. Wasn't that nice of them? How thoughtful! (Bare spots in the basket...'cuz we've eaten quite a few, I just happened to have Caramel Dip in the fridge:)

She really does not take bad pics. Little Trixie in the Living Room...

This is our Pastor, he brought us this big pumpkin and I sent home a pumpkin bake with him fresh out of the oven. Thanks Scott!

Our second oldest grandchild. She is almost as tall as Grandpa here and he's 6'2. Catching up!

Her little brother is staying with us for 2 nights. He and Trixie love each other, she's just his size and a good little friend to play with.

September...In Honor of all those who perished on 9/11

I can't let this day pass without a tribute of some kind to my fellow Firefighter's everywhere, but especially in NYC. We all know the images of that horrible day, they are burned into our minds, so I did not want them to be in my post. And I could not find the perfect song until I remembered this song from my youth. My mom and sister's and I used to sing it and it is something lovely.
"Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his brother."

A large outdoor Show that I did last summer called Cranfests

Warrens Cranberry Festival in Warrens Wisconsin

Last year I found that the Warrens Cranberry Festival did live up to the hype. Although it does cost more than an average craft show, this is a bazillion times bigger than the "average" craft show and the shoppers are dedicated...to shopping! And it's right my own back yard, or at least, in the same state that I live in :)
Personally, I'm not doing craft shows any longer as I now participate in the Wholesale Trade Shows and Markets (June in PA again, where I will be selling my framed prints and doing demonstrations of my take on American Folk Art. I'll also be at Madison for my second show there).

Warrens is a little town in Southern WI with a population of app 300... but overnight jumps to over 100,000!!! There are app. 1500 vendors, which includes vintage and antique dealers, so the rest are shoppers, coming to see YOU! We set up our tent in 2008 and it was an awesome experience.
Here are some photos I took so you can get the inside peek.

Arrive well before the break of dawn each day. This is my aisle, my tent's down on the right. Be prepared to work hard with little sleep, non-stop for 3 days (4 including set up and take down).

Out on one of the streets...

This darling little village has a normal pop. of 300, remember... this photo shows only one of the streets at the festival.

Last day! People are starting to pick out spots on grass for the awesome parade. Others don't stop shopping...for anything! Many of the top competing marching bands from around the entire Midwest are in the parade. It lasts for hours and is non stop WONDERFUL! I kept sneaking out whenever I could to watch :)

Customers picking out their purchases in my tent...I wish I could bottle the laughter at my booth.

Mrs. Wisconsin was a wonderful woman to chat with and a great customer. I sign and personalize my prints. (She returned for more the next day :) Multitasking was just a normal part of each day, as I help another customer while signing her purchases.

TRADE SHOWS COMING UP...

(photo above is one of the initial set ups for my work in a print ad)

First I'll be in Madison, Wisconsin for the Mid-West Market Square, June 14th and 15th. We'll have great show specials and Give-Aways. There is a Cash and Carry going on in conjunction with order writing.

Next I'll be heading out to PA for the Market Square Valley Forge . I've been asked to demonstrate my take on American Folk Art at the PA show on June 25th - 28th . I'll have show specials and Give-Away surprises daily. Insider Peek: For some of the demos I'll be painting with coffee. The originals SMELL great!!!! PLUS, everyone that stops by can put their store's name in the hat to win the first print that comes off the presses for each painting I finish at the show.

My take on American Folk is kind of like the story of the 3 bears. In one little camp I'm considered a bit too cute-sie. In the other little camp my artwork is too odd (women with hair like fried-wire and pointy feet?).
Thankfully the rest all consider me Just Right!

She was the first painting that I ever did using coffee as "paint". There are also watercolors, acrylic and pen & ink involved.

I've got a new baby blog started, it's a wholesale blog for some fresh and new prints I'm doing. A different look to be sure. It was a concept I've been rolling around in my head, then scratching and scribbling little bits of the idea onto paper here and there-for over a year. Finally, I began to paint. They will probably not all be keepers, but as the designs come to life I'm adding them to the site. In the long run I don't know, which ones will stay and which ones will be given the proverbial boot!

My hometown of Geneva, Illinois...the shopping Mecca of the Midwest, the Illinois version of Beverly Hills surrounded by bovine, the place where I was blessed enough to call home growing up, has included a mention of me in their Economic Development Newsletter! Actually it was a gal named Ellen who heads this up. Ellen emailed me and we were talking about shows, but at one point I mentioned that I'd love to be in a store in my hometown and then I told her about Country Business list's of wholesale shows. (I'm sure that was not big news to her since she's in the town next door to where they publish Country B. Lisa, from Market Square Midwest, has been working with some of my images for all the bazillion mailers, brochures, magazine ads and the front of directory's they put out...but I didn't say anything to you guys because they weren't sure if mine would be picked (lots more Artists out there dontcha' know :) But, she just called, they are going with mine...

Kerry is the man who runs the show and he recommended me. Thanks Kerry and Lisa. I'm honored.

Anyhow, she just called and they are going with my, Let It Melt piece. Because in the trade the stores will be shopping for Christmas already!!! Yep, it's not even the middle of March, but that's how store owners have to work/shop for their upcoming seasons. (That reminds me...I'm gonna miss my shop this summer).

On an other note...are you all losing TV stations too? We have satellite and we're still losing them. If you get a new digital TV will that do the trick? We're getting the box...but the satellite company wants to sell us a special antennae for $180. I'll go with the new television if that will work. Let me know if you have some insight on this.

Slide Whistle dilemma solved...after I changed my playlist...ugh! It was a game I had at the bottom of the blog. Deleted it and the horribly annoying Whooooooop! is gone.

Snow Angel by The Dog

Here's a photo of a scene we woke up to this morning. We let our little dog out (14 pound Toto dog) and later on in the morning I looked out the kitchen window and was just gob smacked! See his cute little paw prints? Awwwww!!! He'd made a darling Snow Angel. (I think it was meant for us to send to his new friend Sparkles in Madison ;-) Has anybody else ever had a dog "make" something artistic??? Please post and let us all know.

HOSPITAL UPDATE: Thank you all for your kindness... leaving notes and prayers. We are home, lots of meds and if he can stay relatively well we will go back in 4 weeks. Then the hospital will perform biopsy's on each lung again to see if the rejection has stopped. For those of you who are praying, please continue...

Hello Again...

We're back from the PA Folk Art show and it went really well. We now have over 28 new stores that carry my work on the East Coast! It was a long trip and a lot of work but worth every moment. If you saw the news about their weather you might have seen us...yep, we were in the little Jetta, high up in the mountains, at night, in the blizzard...Faith Stretching!

I was so delighted to meet editor Susan Wagner of Country Business Magazine. I signed quite a few of them for the show attendees. I also got to see my first Holiday Greeting Card box that I designed to go with the cards at Legacy's space and the new catalog that my cards are in. FUN!!! It was great to meet them in person too. Did we take photos???? No, we were so busy working and talking with customers we forgot. I wish I had a photo of Susan and I. Next time. We did get some fun photos of the trip itself-ie. out the car window :-)

I'd like to thank Sassa Lynne at Etsy Serendipity Collection for adding one of my pieces to the Treasury while I was gone. Those only last a few days, so I can't post it, but I sure do appreciate it.

I'm so thankful...I got an email from one of the gals at my licensing company saying that she saw my first card with Legacy at the Atlanta Gift Mart, and that it "looked great". Wow, all those years of wondering if my work would ever been shown at places like that...and with such fantastic artists. What a BLESSING!!! Still don't know what all they are picking out for 2010...In the meantime I'm just so grateful that John got to live to see this, because he's the one who is behind me, encouraging, motivating and praying for me. For all you who are praying for us I want to say, Thank you!

It's official...I gave up my gift shop to switch to full time Artist and wholesaler. I'm kinda physically ill about it. Talking about it is one thing because... when I say I'm a full time working artist it means there's really no other significant income but ME in our home. Ugh! My shop's so pretty in the summer....but I have to keep my sights set to the distant shore and push off from the safety of this one. I've been praying for guidance and I did so well at the Trade show that we knew we could make the leap...of FAITH! Next to PA for the show there and then??? I'm out by the end of the month and then "further in and higher up".

On another, yet related note: I'm a life long artist/ musician, I put music to my moods & text. For Cathy's post I switched my playlist to the song Friends. For THIS post I put on Banjo Dogs, you can't be sad or scared with banjo music (one of my instruments, besides guitar and vocals), I double dog dare ya to try! Don't panic, it'll be (the banjo) gone soon. See, gone :)

Time to do a feature on my friend Cathy since she has a fun thing going on at her etsy.
Don't EAT this cupcake...it's a bath treat. Melts in your bath and makes you feel all silky and clean and smells HEAVENLY!!! " Oh, Heavenly Days." :)
So, meet Cathy. My friend, neighbor (cuz in the forest a person a mile away is your virtual neighbor) and we go to church together. We have also worked together, she's gone to Markets with me, we've cried, laughed and shredded paper together for my little sister's benefit baskets, and when I was going through a rough patch that's lasted , ohhhh, about 4 years now:) she sent my name in and won a wonderful gift basket of soothing items for me. She started selling her soaps in my store and has been perfecting the art of Handmade Soap Making ever since then.
Cath has a cool thing going on her etsy right now...if you head over there you can see how you can get a free bar of handmade soap.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN...

is the wrong word what I feel is truly, truly blessed!

As many of you know, John received a right lung transplant in 2005, so this is a huge milestone for us. In Nov. we celebrated his 3rd year out of transplant and today his real birthday. John and I were both Firefighters, this is predominantly a Firefighter's lung disease. He has had 4 rejections, and was recently hospitalized for pneumonia, a really BAD thing to get if you have a lung transplant. It's a harder life now, but God is the One who makes a way for us as we follow His leading. So, without any further ado here's...John my miracle man. Happy Birthday! And many, many more...

That is our son's deer that he's posing with and our little dog that I'm holding.

Two quick photos of the print they included in Country Business and then I've got to run...I'm getting ready for a big trade show and as Dolly Parton once said, "I don't know if I'm winding my butt or scratching my watch." (She's right up there with Einstein). I have a LOT of ironing to do for our tables and some sewing still unfinished. Darling John had to run our van to the mechanic because our heater broke...it would be a long, very cold ride without it in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. P.S.S. For those of you looking for Country Business in a store like Barnes and Noble, you won't find it unless the store owner has it for their own personal use. This is a magazine for independent gift retailers. You have to have a tax id and a brick & mortar store to get a subscription or a copy. You can pay to be in it, that's where I was blessed as they just wanted to feature me... so I didn't have to pay anything...although I do plan on buying ads in the future. This magazine is about everything going on behind the scenes for gift shop owners only. The contents are: who has signed deals with who, latest designs, current trends, retail forcasts, new artists (like my piece), the trade show calendar, even how to set up the displays that you see in stores and it's all about wholesale, so that's why it's not for the general public (wholesale pricing is always secret). But you can win one here :) You will find 800 numbers for tons of products, but you won't be able to order without tax id, store address proof, and income proof. But, you'll have soooooo much fun looking at everything behind the "Gift Shop" scene.

My Art in Country Business Magazine

This is "my" issue.

They interviewed 7 designers but would only choose 3 for publication...since I didn't know for sure if they picked me I didn't want to say anything... but now I know.... (insert a Sally Fields, "You like me, you really like me" here ;)

Who are THEY? Country Business Magazine. Which is not a "news stand magazine" like their other publication, Country Sampler ( I own a bazillion cuz I can't throw them away), but a specialized magazine for independent gift retailers, (if you own a store you've probably seen them... if you have not seen them you should really subscribe, because it's like going to Market without leaving your chair!!!).

My work will be a feature as one of the new trends in the New and Noteworthy section. Let me tell ya, talking with Editor, Susan Wagner was fun, although I went all ga-ga because I was looking at a photo of her while talking to her.

I have not seen it yet and frankly don't even have a copy yet, but I arrived home from Green Bay tonight and there was an email from a business owner in Montgomery, AL who loves my work (There goes that Sally Fields thing again) and said she "saw it in the feature". Thanking God? You bet :) Another issue will talk about my Legacy Publication signing in their Industry News section. How absolutely sweet of them to do this. I'll be sure to blog the photo when my issue arrives. If you are a gift shop owner they are a must have magazine. To subscribe you'll need a tax id. Christmas Shows and Featuring Liz from Primoriginals

Hi Everyone-I was at a Christmas Show in Green Bay Wisconsin, selling my prints with my husband yesterday and was looking at a woman's work that seemed very familiar...then when I returned to her booth later I saw the word etsy on her card. I asked if she had a blog? Yep. It was so fun to meet Liz from Primoriginals. She is a hard core etsy seller and so sweet to boot. I bought an adorable ornament and a zipper pull thingy. Check her out at the link above. (Of course I didn't take any photos to blog because the camera was back at my father-in-law's house).
Liz is from Green Bay, as is my husband. Reading her blog was so much fun. We also lived in Green Bay for a few years. Her Bay Beach photos were unique in that-we even share the same memories with our children. We live in the Northwoods now, but we go to Green Bay often. I hope to share a coffee with Liz sometime soon and sit down to discuss art and life. The show attendance was down this year but I got to meet a sweet new friend who is "not" invisible. (I call my blogworld friends, "my invisible friends", since we've never met in real time :-)

Some of the shows have been good this year and some ok. This was just ok. I sure miss those big, summer shows.

This little primitive snowman will be the first card produced by Legacy Greeting Cards (dbl click on him to see how I aged him) and in their catalog in 2009. The background is painted with real coffee. The original smells GREAT! If you own a store, I hope you will consider including him in your line. If you shop at a store that sells Legacy, I hope you'll ask for my work :) What are the pieces Legacy's choosing for the 2010 catalog??? I have no idea yet, but it's exciting to think about. In a letter from Legacy Greeting Cards today I was informed that I will now have a line of Greeting Cards and Holiday Boxed sets. It was the sweetest email you could ever imagine.

It's funny, because I just had customers in my store again today (see photos in older posts) asking for greeting cards of my work.

It's a long way away, in 2009 the first Holiday boxed set will be out (that's the Star of Wonder Snowman that I'd told you all about previously) and then my whole line will be added to their catalog in 2010. I'm still in shock and awe! My card line????? Me, Pam Warden...little miss nobody from nowhere Wisconsin??? Oh, and they have calendars, recipe boxes, magnets, recipe cards, coasters etc. I wonder if I'll get any of those??? Gooseberry Patch is another of their artists, they do the funky cookbooks etc.

This may sound strange but if I was given an opportunity to choose a card company, I would have chosen Legacy by a long shot. Hallmark has in-house artists, I'm not sure how they do it at American Greetings but they are both in Big Box stores. Legacy is the Gift Store greeting card company, sold in cool stores, big and small, across the country and world. As artistic on the front of the card as it is inside and on the back too. Beautiful envelopes also include the artist's work. What an honor. Thank you Lord.

My sweet husband brought home a huge bar of Hershey's Dark Chocolate and Cherry Cokes to celebrate. I'm so happy I can celebrate with all of you too :-)

And I just looked up from typing... it's SNOWING. Huge flakes!

Here's one of my Snowmen...I've painted so many that people used to refer to me around here as The Snowman Lady. Confession: This is me waiting in line at Starbucks. I tap, tap, tap my little feet and sigh, I hate to wait in line and I ALWAYS get the person in front of me who does not know what she wants, reads the entire menu out-loud to the brand new, just started that day, perky, perky, perky new counter person. Ugh. I have to always pray about it so I have a better heart attitude. You may think, it's just coffee. ACKKK, JUST COFFEE??? See, gotta pray about it....

I don't know if you can tell, but the sky looks like a muted box of crayons were used. She is special to me since my children are grown people now. Sure miss their little voices...
This another of my Angels Of series (see Nurse in post below). I have well over 100 prints, so you guys have only seen a few. I'm trying to get better about that. But you can always hop over to my wholesale site and wander around there :)
I've just added her to me etsy. I can put your children or grandchildren's names around the balloons and in the wings of the angel. It's another saying that gave me shivers when it came to me while painting. "Growing, growing...gone."

She is the Angel of Nurses.
She will make you all better or cry trying...

When that saying and play on words came to me I had a shiver, I knew I'd captured a Nurses heart. The big needle represents pain. Many times they bring pain into the room with them, but the compassion in her face overwhelms the pain as she tries to "make you all better." Hope and Mercy are in her wings as they keep her aloft and coming back to a difficult job.
Nurses that come to my store always tear up and usually ask for more for their friends...I wish I could give one to each Nurse that I meet.
I will be showing you my many Angels this week and adding them to my etsy SALE. (My etsy name is babeta.etsy. Those are the initials of my grandchildren :)

She is the 6th in my series of OZ paintings. A Cairn Terrier was the dog they chose for the role of Toto and Toto was a SHE not a HE. We have a Cairn mix whose father was a purebred. Our dog is an exact Toto look-alike.
When this print went up for sale in my retail store it SOLD OUT. I was amazed, but so pleased. I have this print to offer again. She's a very good "seller" at the shows too.
You can find all my work on ETSY and as always, if you see something here that's not listed there, I can list it for you right away, just shoot me an email. My Etsy shop is called Babeta.

This painting just makes me happy. Always...whenever I look at her I smile. She is VERY passive/aggressive. When we/women appear nice, but we're not, at least not on that day or at that particular moment in time!
Oh, I just love her spunk :)

As one of their licensed artists, I'm in Applejack Art Partners catalogs, mailings etc. and shown in NYC, out west and at International Shows, but to be featured in their online mailing again was fun. It's the Halloween and Fall Harvest Art Feature, and this means it's sent to ALL of their clients, which are all the major companies :) To see how huge Applejack is just flip over the items you purchase and you'll see Licensed by Applejack Art Partners time and again. Happy Dance. They have loads of artists which means you don't always get to be featured. This time there were 16 of us chosen to represent.
You never know who will see it. They also recently told me that Target has asked for a second presentation, they are thinking figurines. That would be cool. But you know what was WAY COOL? My rep said, "Target LOVES you Pam." Yep, WAY COOL. Who doesn't love Target? Even if they don't make figurines, hey, Target once loved me. And I say that in the voice Merryl Streep used when she said, "I once had a farm in Africa..." but for me it is, "I once was told that Target loves me..."

Combining Art and Coffee...

When you combine Art & Coffee you create Java Joy. This is a "painting" where no paint was used. (The dark background page on this blog is also all coffee). It's a challenge to use coffee as a medium, but oh, so much FUN!!!
Instant Maxwell House and water are all that I use. Hope you enjoy.
But Remember: Friends Don't Let Friends Drink Maxwell House... :)

ABOVE Here's what I received in the OZ Swap: This beautiful bag with wallet and tissue holder made by my wonderful partner Marcia over at the Blue Bobbin (she knew that I have a Toto Dog). LOVE IT. A couple of Oz Magnets, and although you can't see them in the photo really well, some sweet earrings that are Red Shoes. And the Giant Lollipop... :) Yep, that bag looks just like my dog!

Picture Above and Below Are What I Sent: I made a large set of coffee stained Oz Tags, each with a cute Oz saying. Hand painted pin that says, "It's all about the shoes... Oz Swap 2008" so Marcia will always remember our fun together. Handmade pair of earrings with a Ruby Red stone.
Here's Marcia's lovely daughter...who happens to collect Oz items. So I personalized this framed print (I hand painted and sparkled the frame) too...anyway, I put Lizzie's name in the red shoe. She loved it, I'm so glad. The print for Lizzie is called Hate Mail From the Dog and says, "Dear Dorothy...I took the red shoes, hate Oz, find your own way home. Love, Toto." I also sent Marcia a Nurse Print. I painted this is honor of Nurses, Marcia's an RN. My husband had a lung transplant and I can't tell you how much Nurses mean to me :) So, I personalized that for her. It says, "She is the Angel of Nurses...She will make you all better or cry trying."

Well, this was a wonderful swap.THANKS SHERRY! Marcia loved her prints (I'm learning how to be a good Swap Partner :) and the stuff I sent and I LOVED my Oz stuff from her. Thank you MARCIA! I'll be posting more pics later that I took, these are some that Marcia posted...(It took me a minute to understand the GIANT Lollipop!) The Guild Pam, the Lollipop Guild. What an adorable idea.

Ok, so it's not as bad as the picture of this guys tent (don't know where this happened,it's a photo from Images), I hope they are ok, but I didn't have my camera so don't have any photos of our little mis-adventure in our front yard.
We bought a brand new tent/canopy last night in Green Bay because our old brand new-ish tent that we used for outdoor shows got wrecked in a similar fashion. The Man and I set the brand spankin' new one up in the yard and put the sides on. It was perfect, may I say a little too perfect??? Must have been, because a sudden gust of wind from out of nowhere picked it up and rolled it bouncing down our slight incline of a hill, smashing and mangeling steel braces all the way down. If felt like forever! UGH! So, The Man is replacing our old braces-you know, from our other brand new-ish broken tent- with the broken braces from our brand new broken tent. Huh? Clear as mud? Well, he's got a big job. I'll just blog about it. The adventures continue.
